Generation of Pyroxene-Based Porous Ceramics from Steel Refining Slag

نویسندگان

چکیده

In this paper, porous ceramics were prepared by controlling the composition and sintering temperature of raw materials based on slag from steel refining operations without need for a pore-forming agent. Solid-state processing included phase transformation low-density (2.10–2.90 g/cm3) to high-density pyroxene-based (3.22–3.88 g/cm3). Phase transformations densification investigated means mercury intrusion, XRF, SEM EDS. Results showed that ceramic with optimum properties produced material containing 35 wt.% slag, exhibited high water absorption capacity 31.62%, flexural strength 18.26 MPa, porosity 44.5% an average pore diameter 1.27 µm. Raw fineness or content near pyroxene promoted formation accordingly more volumetric shrinkage which enhanced both bending ceramics.

Ceramics from blast furnace slag, kaolin and quartz

Three new ceramic batches with no traditional fluxes and 30, 50 and 70 wt.% blast furnace slag were studied. The processes of phase formation and densification were estimated in non-isothermal conditions by differential thermal analysis and dilatometry, respectively. After that the degrees of sintering, obtained after heat-treatment at different temperatures and times, were evaluated measuring ...

Performance Improvement of Porous Asphalt Mixtures using Crumb Rubber and Steel Slag Powder

In recent decades, porous asphalt has been extended for surface drainage in various regions throughout the world. The permeability of porous asphalt has an important role in the performance of asphalt pavements in the rainy weather. The most remarkable problem related to the porous asphalt is its short service time. Considerable efforts have been made to enhance the mechanical properties of por...

Recovery of Vanadium from Esfahan Steel Company Steel Slag; Optimizing of Roasting and Leaching Parameters

In this Study, vanadium recovery from the steelmaking converter slag was studied. Salt roasting-basic leaching is the process which was applied to separate and extract vanadium from steel making slag. Ground slag was roasted after mixing with determined quantities of sodium carbonate. The effect of time and temperature of roasting and sodium carbonate content were studied. The optimum temperatu...

Steel Slag Utilization in Asphalt Mixes

Steel slags are the major byproduct from the conversion of iron to steel in the basic oxygen (major type), electric arc and open hearth (minor type) steelmaking processes. Steel recovery from the slag results in a processed aggregate with both positive (wear resistant, skid resistant, rough textured, angular, well graded, stripping resistant) and negative (heavy, expansive) features. Considerab...
